“When you are in pain, you can’t function. It starts as physical and it will eventually bring you down emotionally and mentally, too”.
That’s how Ruby Thomas, Owner of Holistic Health Center. At 1233 Route 51 in Jefferson Hills, describes what pain can do to a person. However, she can help folks overcome pain associated with nerves and muscles, as well as other causes.
“Most people are crying out for help,”, she said.’ They go from doctor to doctor and no one can help them. But I can.”
She was a physical therapist for the U.S. Navy and received training in nerve and muscle surgery and massage therapy in Germany. But she was familiar with healing before that training. “My grandfather was a well-known healer in the Philippines,” Thomas said, noting she met her late husband, Clarence Thomas – co-founder of the Lions Diabetes Center at UPMC McKeesport -- while he served as a doctor aboard a ship in the Navy. They were married for 38 years.
“I have people come in here and say they have lost hope because they are in so much pain and no one can help them,” she said noting the entire body must be treated, not just one specific area.”
‘Your whole body needs manipulation. If you have good circulation, then you can function as good as human being,” Thomas said. “Just like a car, your body needs routine maintenance. It needs oiled, greased and a tune –up, which will help emotionally, physically and mentally. It is preventive medicine and it works.”
While in Guam, she was involved in a holistic medicine research project with a Japanese doctor. The purpose was to analyze why people suffer pain. “If you let pain go it builds up and eventually will stop circulation and the n you have real problems, “She said.
Ruby’s Holistic Health Center offers variety of treatments including deep tissue massage therapeutic massage and Swedish or relaxation massage; various body treatments such as Hawaiian Sea Salt Glow, Hawaiian Aromatherapy Massage, Suction therapy, cellulite treatment, ear candling, facial (natural products) and pregnancy massage. There are also several packages available as well as body wraps (aloe vera mini-wrap and mineral wraps), which cleanse and detoxify the body.
Thomas, who is certified in the various treatments she offers, has been in Jefferson Hills since 2006 and enjoys helping people feel better. “People are so appreciative for any help they get. I think this is my mission in life.
“I think life is wonderful,” she continued. “ I don’t believe in wallowing in pain. Life is what you make it and with life there is hope.”
The Holistic Health Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 412-384-3494 or 412-233-7438.
My practice holds, that experience and memories are stored in the body in the form of stress, causing muscular tension and pain. By meeting the tension with hard pressure, it releases the stress and locked up memories called ”Body Works”.
Neuro muscular massage is a stroke and friction and pressure to counter ischemia, a condition in which the blood does not flow properly to the muscle.
